Increase in visitors to free museums
Culture secretary Tessa Jowell has announced that almost 30 million extra visits – a rise of 83 per cent – have been made to formerly charging national museums and galleries in England since the Department of Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) scrapped entry charges five years ago.

Tourism industry slams increase in Air Passenger Duty

Luminar offloads entertainment division in £95m deal
Nightclub operator Luminar has disposed of its 98-strong entertainment division – which includes the Jumpin’ Jaks and Chicago Rock Café brands – in a sale and leaseback deal with property group Prestbury and a newly-formed operating company, NewCo, worth more than £95m.

MFS acquires tree-top walk attraction
MFS Living and Leisure, the Australia-based investment vehicle which earlier this year acquired the world’s largest aquarium owner and developer, Oceanis, for AUS$150m (£63.5m, US$110.6m, 93m euro), has announced the latest addition to its growing leisure portfolio, a tree-top walk business.

Smoking ban hits Gala
Gala Coral’s chief executive, Neil Goulden, has said that revenues at some of its Scottish bingo clubs were down between 5 and 15 per cent – and profits by as much as 90 per cent – due to the smoking ban, according to Reuters.
