Work to start on Rossall Point attraction
Wyre Borough Council (WBC) has announced that construction work is to begin on a new observation tower at Rossall Point after a contractor was appointed to deliver the scheme.
Parkinson Building Contractors has been chosen by the council to build the new 14m (46ft) attraction, which forms part of wider efforts to rejuvenate the Wyre coastline.

Council exhibits plans for Piece Hall overhaul
Calderdale Council's vision for the major redevelopment of the Grade I-listed Piece Hall in Halifax, West Yorkshire, have gone on show as part of a public display at the site.
The local authority is planning to apply to the Heritage Lottery Fund next March in a bid to secure £6.7m towards the scheme, which will include the restoration of the building.

Chester theatre scheme moves forward
Plans for a new multi-million pound theatre in Chester have moved forward after the council announced that it had successfully secured the second of its two preferred locations.
Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWCC) now intends to identify its chosen site for the venue on 13 October after acquiring the Odeon cinema site on Upper Northgate Street.

New entertainment venue opens in Guildford
Guildford Borough Council (GBC) has raised the curtain on a new entertainment venue for the Surrey town, which has been designed by UK-based architects Austin-Smith: Lord.
G Live was built by Willmott Dixon Construction and will be run by HQ Theatres, with the building comprising an auditorium with a capacity of 1,000 seated or 1,700 standing.

Leisure properties make it to British Design Awards shortlist
A number of leisure projects have made it on the shortlist for The British Design Awards 2011.
The UK Pavilion at last year's Shanghai Expo, designed by Heatherwick Studio; St Pancras Renaissance Hotel in London by RHWL and Richard Griffiths Architects ; and the Hepworth Wakefield gallery in Yorkshire all feature on the five strong list.

York's 'chocolate attraction' to open in 2012
