Northern Irish government plans revealed
The development of new sports venues and increased visitor numbers have been included as part of the Northern Ireland Executive's new draft Programme for Government 2011-15.

WLCT to operate Cannock Chase facilities
Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust (WLCT) has been appointed by Cannock Chase Council (CCC) to operate local facilities and services from February 2012.

Thea Award winners announced
The historical theme park Puy du Fou in France and the revamped Star Tours 4D experience at Disneyland, California, US were among the attractions to win a Thea award for their achievements in design and theming.

Airlines urge chancellor to scrap APD
The chief executives of four leading UK airlines have called on chancellor George Osborne to scrap Air Passenger Duty (APD), calling it a "tax on tourism and a tax on business".
Willie Walsh of International Airlines Group; Carolyn McCall of easyJet; Virgin Atlantic's Steve Ridgway; and Ryanair's Michael O'Leary have all argued against the levy.

Six philanthropists receive royal accolade
Six individuals have been awarded the Prince of Wales Medal for Arts Philanthropy 2011 in recognition of their support and generosity towards the UK's arts and cultural sector.
Lloyd Dorfman; Jonathan Ruffer; and Lady Hobson were among the recipients to receive their medal from HRH The Prince of Wales at Clarence House on 17 November.

£2.6m for Glasgow community facilities
Glasgow City Council (GCC) has confirmed £2.6m of funding to help sustain the existence and promote community management of sports and cultural facilities across the city.
A £2.13m capital investment fund and a £500,000 social enterprise fund is now available for Glasgow's 32 community facilities, which are currently managed by Glasgow Life.
The social enterprise fund will be administered over 2011-12 and 2012-13

London mayor launches Culture Squad 2012
London mayor Boris Johnson has launched Culture Squad 2012, which will offer five full-time paid apprentices the chance to gain experience of producing a major outdoor festival.
The scheme aims to establish itself as a flagship for best practice and involves Arts Council England; The Albany; Barbican; English National Ballet; Roundhouse; and Watermans.

Conservation work for prehistoric Irish site
The Mound of the Hostages, one of the most iconic monuments among the prehistoric sites at the Hill of Tara, County Meath, Ireland, is to benefit from "essential conservation work".

New visitor centre for Ontario attraction
A new visitor centre, which has been designed by Toronto-based architects Reich and Petch, has opened in Ontario, Canada, as part of a wider project to celebrate the War of 1812.
