Scotland signs Chinese cultural agreement
The Scottish and Chinese governments have signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in a bid to support "greater exchange and collaboration" in arts and heritage.
First Minister Alex Salmond and Chinese minister of culture Cai Wu signed the MoU at a ceremony in Beijing, which is one of three cultural agreements between the two countries.

Giant pandas arrive at Edinburgh Zoo
The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS) has announced that two breeding giant pandas, Tian Tian and Yang Guang, have arrived at Edinburgh Zoo from China.

£2.4m boost for Welsh heritage schemes
Nine heritage projects across Wales have been awarded a share of £2.4m from the Welsh Assembly Government in a bid to make the country's history more accessible.

Reading confirms Abbey Quarter grant bid
Reading Borough Council (RBC) has confirmed it is seeking Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) support towards its plans for a new Abbey Quarter in the centre of the Berkshire town.
The local authority is applying for £6.7m to help fund the proposals, which will incorporate a number of historic sites and buildings and involve the conservation of the Abbey Ruins.

Green light for Liverpool theatre plans

PwC publishes casino and gaming analysis
Asia Pacific will be the "growth machine" for the global casino and online gaming market over the next five years, according to new analysis from PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).

Work starts on Northampton museum project
Local contractor Jenkins Weir is to start modernisation work at Northampton Museum and Art Gallery today (5 December), which is due to be completed by the end of March 2012.

Assiniboine Park Zoo receives US$5m donation for redevelopment
The Assiniboine Park Zoo has received a US$5m (3.7m euro, £3.2m) donation from the Richardson Foundation towards the Journey to Churchill exhibit - part of the US$200m (148m euro, £129m) redevelopment strategy for the attraction.
It is the largest private sector gift in the history of the park and will allow the beginning of phase II of the project, which focuses entirely on the redevelopment of the Zoo.
