VisitBritain hails 'record' year for tourism
National tourism agency VisitBritain has welcomed a "record" year for UK tourism after it reported a 3 per cent growth in the number of overseas residents coming to the UK in 2011.

Renewed hope for Felixstowe's Spa Theatre?
Felixstowe's Spa Theatre could remain open to the public until at least January 2013 if talks between the local authority and the venue's current operator are successfully concluded.
Suffolk Coastal District Council (SCDC) has agreed it will aim to end its existing agreement with Openwide Coastal early next year while it looks to secure the theatre's long-term future.

New digital arts research fund for Scotland
Creative Scotland has announced the launch of the Digital R&D Fund for Scottish Arts and Culture, which aims to help projects connect to wider audiences through digital technology.
The organisation partnered with the Arts and Humanities Research Council and the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts to support the sector across Scotland.

Boost for Irish arts touring programmes
More than 30 arts organisations and artists are to take their work around Ireland after it was announced that EUR740,000 (GBP614,000) of additional funding had been made available.
Arts Council Ireland (ACI) has made the investment, which aims to enable audiences across the country to experience some of Ireland's best visual arts, dance, film, theatre and music.

Work starts on Lancashire coastal attraction
Wyre Borough Council (WBC) has confirmed that construction work has started on a new observation tower at Rossall Point, Lancashire, as part of efforts to regenerate the seafront.
Fylde Coast-based Parkinsons has been appointed contractor for the scheme, which will see a new 14m (46ft) tower link developments on the promenade at Cleveleys and Fleetwood.

Viewing platform for Forth Rail Bridge?
Network Rail, the group responsible for operating and maintaining the UK's rail network, is reportedly considering plans for a viewing platform on top of Scotland's Forth Rail Bridge.
According to the BBC, the company is looking into the possibility of allowing visitors travel more than 300ft (91m) to the top of the iconic structure overlooking the Firth of Forth.

April start for Dickens museum revamp
