Getty's £10m Gallery gift
The National Gallery has received a £10m donation in the name of billionaire philanthropist Sir Paul Getty, through his brother Gordon and son Mark. The donation follows the £50m already donated by Getty in 1985. National Trust calls for tourism cash
The National Trust has called on the government to invest in the future of the 'new rural economy' after conducting research into the economic value of tourism to the natural and historic environment. Tourism downturn leads to Lloyd Webber closure

Disneyquest Chicago to close
Disney Regional Entertainment has announced that the Chicago prototype of Disneyquest, an indoor interactive entertainment venue, is to close due to financial reasons. Birmingham museum welcomes Egyptian guest

Castaway Island set to become holiday destination
Taransay, the deserted Scottish island used to house the BBC's Castaways during 2000, is set to become a tourist attraction. The weather-beaten island in the Western Isles region was uninhabited for several decades until the Castaway project that saw 36 men, women and children live on the island for one year. Art Fund grant for V&A reliquary
The Victoria & Albert Museum has benefited from a £300,000 Art Fund grant towards the purchase of a rare statue from a private collection at Luton Hoo. The 15th century Wehner Reliquary is a figure of St Sebastian dating to 1497, which in the Middle Ages was thought to protect the beholder from the plague. Visitors 'vote with their feet' at Glasgow Science Centre
