Seaside resort in a whip over ice-cream
The traditional Essex resort town of Frinton-on-Sea is up in arms over the provision of ice-cream for tourists. West End audience numbers defy loss fears
New figures released by the Society of London Theatre (Solt) have revealed that audiences at West End theatres have defied the expected detrimental impact of foot and mouth. YHA may have to sell properties due to FMD losses
The Youth Hostel Association (YHA) has warned that losses to inbound tourism caused by foot and mouth may lead to substantial closures of many of its hostels. Jarvis Hotels predicts first half losses
Jarvis Hotels has announced at its AGM that turnover for the first sixteen weeks is five per cent down on last year overall, and predicted a reduction in first half profits, prompting a slide in share value. All-hotels reports rise in online bookings
All-hotels, the online hotel room booking group has announced that online bookings through its site rose 60 per cent in the first half of this financial year compared to last year. The group reported total bookings of over £5.5m - a total of around 80,000 hotel rooms being sold. All-hotels said that the site had received 3.5m visitors to the site during the first half.

Eden Project imports pest control
The Eden Project has been awarded a zoo licence to put insect-eating birds and lizards inside its tropical biome. The greenhouse project, built in a former clay pit in Cornwall, is experiencing difficulties maintaining a balanced ecological environment, and is introducing the animals in the largest of three biomes to keep the numbers of insects down. Eden Project asks people to stagger rainy day visits
The Eden Project in Cornwall has become a victim of its own success. Having already surpassed the 750,000 annual visitor number in just four months, operators have had to place and advert in the Cornish press asking people to stagger their visits. First Direct banks on attractions
First Direct bank is offering its Visa cardholders two fee tickets to use at any of over 50 attractions in the UK. Valid until the end of the year, each voucher entitles one adult or one child free entry to the attractions when accompanied by a full paying adult.
