World's first rotating bridge
The world's first rotating bridge is to open to the public. A four day celebration will mark the opening of the Gateshead Millennium Bridge which is supported with £9.7m of lottery money from the Millennium Commission. Smuggler's den becomes tourist exhibit
Tourists are flocking to see a mansion involved in China's biggest smuggling ring after it was opened as an exhibit by the government. Royal jewels on display for first time
A dazzling display of royal jewels has gone on display for the first time at the National Museum in New Delhi. Thistle Hotel Poole to be flattened
The Thistle Hotel at Poole is to be demolished as part of a £30m redevelopment of the town's quayside. Scottish Highlands the most attractive place in Britain
The Highlands has been placed at the top of Britain's 10 most attractive places to visit. Britain's parks in devastating decline

Starlight Express to close after 18 years

Record numbers expected at Heritage Open Days

Versace's Miami home to become luxury hotel
The former home of the murdered fashion designer Gianni Versace is to be converted into a luxury hotel and restaurant.
