Britons encouraged to visit London
The London Tourism Action Group (LTAG) is channeling £500,000 of Government funding into encouraging Britons to visit the Capital.

The LTAG originally planned to invest the money in promoting London oversees, but changed it plans due to the drop in tourist trade following the foot and mouth crisis, and the events of 11 September in the US.

Economic downturn 'back on track by 2003'

IMAX signs deal with National Amusements
The IMAX Corporation has signed a deal with National Amusements to open an IMAX 3D theatre at The Bridge entertainment complex in Los Angeles.

The IMAX auditorium is scheduled to open at the 17-screen Bridge Cinema, part of a 250,000sq ft entertainment and shopping complex at Howard Hughes Center, in January 2002.

Britain guilty over dirty beaches
Britain has been found guilty of failing to keep its beaches clean enough during the 1990s, the European Court of Justice ruled this week.

The ruling followed a campaign by the European Commission to censure the UK for failing to meet the limits set out in a directive dating back to 1975.

In 1996, less than 90 per cent of the UK's bathing waters met EU hygiene standards. The situation worsened in 1997.

Nottingham offers visitors a world of sport
Nottingham's sports venues and hotels have teamed up with Profile Nottingham to offer reduced price sporting breaks for visitors.

Treats at the Tower
HM Tower of London has introduced three new corporate hospitality programmes. The Tower is now offering visitors twilight ghost walks, escorted by Yeoman Warders, around the most haunted parts of the 900-year-old fortress and visits to the scaffold site to read inscriptions made by prisoners before they were executed. Job cuts in the amusement industry
The UK Amusement Parks & Arcades industry may shed up to 875 jobs next year according to Plimsoll Portfolio Analysis: Amusement Parks & Arcades.

Ice hotel returns to Canada
Work is due to start of Canada's second Ice Hotel after its successful launch last year.

More than 11,000 tonnes of snow and 350 tonnes will be used to construct the 31-bedroom hotel accomodating up to 76 people. Other facilites will include two art galleries, an Absolut Ice bar, a cinema, spa, driving range, skating rink and wedding chapel.
