£1.3bn man-made leisure islands planned for Dubai
A multi-billion pound man-made island resort, designed to resemble a huge palm tree, is being constructed off the coast of Dubai.

Amusement industry in for a bumpy ride says research
Analysis into the some of the largest companies in amusement park and arcades industry finds that more than half will not see any growth in 2002.

The study of almost 300 companies by Pimsoll, found that half could lose an average of seven per cent in sales this year, despite a forecasted growth of 1.7 per cent for the industry.

£1m white-knuckle ride for Pleasureland
The amusement park, Pleasureland Southport, is to receive a £1m white-knuckle ride this April.

The £1m Space Shot, designed by S&S of Utah, USA, is a 150-ft tower ride which catapults riders into the air at 80mph, giving them a similar experience to that of being ejected from a fighter plane.

Club Med feels the cold
Club Med has recorded a net loss for 2001 of £43,5m, reflecting 'a particularly difficult year'.

Dinosaurs restored in Crystal Palace Park
The world's first dinosaur and prehistoric animal park, containing 29 life-size statues in Crystal Palace Park in Bromley, Kent, has been fully restored 150 years after it was first built.

The £4m project, with £3.3m granted from the Heritage Lottery Fund, involved work by palaeontologists, landscape architects and palaeobotanists; even the statues' original paintwork has been exposed and restored.

Aquarium of the Lakes re-opens

Dome UK's most visited attraction in 2000

Stirling's Tolbooth has £6m boost
