Conservation skills shortage endangers public heritage
The Heritage Lottery Fund says that many of Britain's conservation skills are endangered, 'putting the fabric of our heritage at risk'.

Sustaining our Living Heritage, a study undertaken by HOST Consultancy for the Heritage Lottery Fund explored the skills and training needs of the UK's heritage sector and found a range of 'missing skills' such as stone masonry, flint knapping and hedging.

£10m restoration of 1930s art deco hotel
The Midland Hotel overlooking Morecambe Bay in Lancashire, the Britain's only surviving art deco hotel, is to be restored to its former glory.

Built in the 1930s by the London Midland & Scottish Railway to revitalise the Victorian resort, the hotel has fallen into disrepair over the last five years.

Countdown to Cornwall's latest attraction
Work is due to begin shortly on the internal fit-out of the £22m National Maritime Museum Cornwall (NMMC) in Falmouth.

Due to open in June, the museum will form the centrepiece of a £27m development on three acres of derelict harbour front. The scheme will include cafés, shops, restaurants set around a public square with a capacity for 4,000 people, created for concerts, exhibitions and major water sports events.

Windsor Castle tribute to Golden Jubilee
A new landscape garden, the first to be created at Windsor castle since the 1820s, is set to transform the main visitor entrance.

Organisers of the Queen's Golden Jubilee have refuted claims that this summer's event will be an embarrassing flop.

'UKOK' for visitors says BTA
The British Tourist Authority (BTA) has launched a multi-million pound international marketing campaign to bring overseas visitors to Britain in 2002.

Kent County Council has joined forces with private companies including Eurotunnel, Leeds Castle and Canterbury Cathedral to promote the county to tourists.

Winter opening a success
German theme park, Europa-Park, has declared its decision to open over the Christmas period was a success.

Since December 1 last year, more than 180,000 people have visited the park, boosting visitor number for the year to well over three million. Cash slump for British Museum
The British Museum has announced it may have to close some galleries, cut opening hours and make staff cuts due to a drop in visitors that has led to a £5m deficit.
