Tourists head back to Egypt
Egypt's tourist industry has started to show signs of recovery, with holidaymakers attracted by the prospect of cheap breaks, reports the BBC. Ferrari plans sports car theme parks
Ferrari's chair, Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, has told the Financial Times that he wanted Ferrari to float on the stock market to fund an expansion into entertainment, including the development of Ferrari theme parks: 'At the moment there is no decision, but if I could make a suggestion to my main shareholders, I would say they should think about a flotation,' he said. Mouse empire expands in Europe
The £376m Walt Disney Studios has opened next to the existing Disneyland Paris, ahead of schedule. The new park, which has hired 3,000 people and is modelled on Disney-MGM Studios in Orlando, Florida, is expected to boost overall attendance to 17m people next year, according to Euro Disney. Global tourism slump affects 10 million jobs
The World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) says by the end of this year total industry spending will be 7.4 per cent lower than in 2000, but forecasts record growth for 2003. WTTC's research says the downturn in business following September 11 will result in a total worldwide loss to employment of over 10 million jobs, but is confident the trend is finite and a reverse will begin in the second half of 2002.

John Lennon's childhood home given to National Trust

Joan Collins promotes countryside as tourism figures released
The government is about to publish figures showing that in an average year tourism is worth £14bn a year to the English countryside alone, with several billion more made in Wales and Scotland.
