Theatreshare to start trading
Theatreshare, the newly formed West End theatre production company headed by Stephen Fry, starts trading next month.

BTA reveals new chief executive
The British Tourist Authority (BTA) has announced the appointment of Tom Wright as chief executive designate from 1 June 2002, replacing Jeff Hamblin on 1 August 2002.

Welcoming the appointment, BTA chair David Quarmby said: 'I am delighted that Tom is joining BTA. He will bring highly relevant, senior management and commercial experience to the vital task of determining and leading BTA's future strategy.'

Tourism campaign gets £5m boost
The British Tourism Authority has secured more than £5m in cash contributions from the industry as part of its £40m campaign to encourage one million extra visitors to come to the UK this year.

Tourism threatened by US entry regulations clampdown
A range of tough restrictions on foreign visitors may hit the American tourism market, as authorities work to close gaps exploited by terrorist attacks.

LTB chair steps down
The chair of London Tourist Board, Teresa Wickham, is to stand down; she was appointed non-executive chair in December 2000.

New music complex planned for Bristol
A £44m music centre for production, presentation and performance is planned for Bristol.

Edinburgh's science-based visitor attraction, Our Dynamic Earth, has been awarded a five-star grading by VisitScotland.

Liverpool's new tourist guides
In a pioneering scheme, homeless people in Liverpool could soon become the city's tourist guides, taking visitors on tours around the city centre.

The city council's Positive Action Training team (PAT) has joined forces with the Big Issue in the North to find ten homeless people to take part in a training scheme, which will see some of them become city centre 'Gold Zone navigators'.

Brighton museum to open after £10m refurbishment
The Brighton museum and art gallery will reopen on 4 May following a £10m refurbishment, including £7.5m donated by the Heritage lottery fund.

The museum, which originally opened in 1875, has been closed for two years to allow the building work to take place.

The World docks in London
The £182m floating resort, The World, has made its first appearance in London as part of an initial set of globe-sailing journeys which began in Oslo and has already taken in Amsterdam and Hamburg.

Fire closes Center Parcs' Suffolk village
The Elveden Forest Center Parcs site in Suffolk will be closed for months after a serious blaze last week (April 4) triggered a full evacuation of about 3,500 holidaymakers.

No serious injuries were reported, although one staff member needed treatment for smoke inhalation and minor burns.
