ETC to undergo 'radical' change
Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell says the marketing of English tourism is to be sparked by a 'radical' change to the English Tourism Council (ETC).

A private-public coalition is to be created to develop e-tourism and market England to the UK market.

Yorkshire Sculpture Park opens Visitor Centre

South Korea hoping for economic boost from football World Cup
South Korea, co-hosts of the football world cup in 2002, is hoping the event will give its economy a major boost reports Caroline Gluck, BBC correspondent in Seoul.

400,000 visitors are expected to visit South Korea during the month long tournament, during which football fans are expected to spend around $600 million.

New ferris wheel for Shanghai park
Jinjiang Amusement Park, in southwest Shanghai, launched its new ferris wheel on 1 May, following a seven month build programme. The park already has carousels, roller coasters and log rides as well as bumper cars and a swinging pirate ship.

Bruce Lee museum opens in China
A museum dedicated to martial arts icon Bruce Lee has opened in Guangdong, China.

Artefacts in the museum include letters, films, photographs and other Lee memorabilia.

The museum is housed in a tea shop, 60km north-west of Hong Kong. The building was donated to the Bruce Lee Association , by the Guangdong provincial government.

Singapore to become a city of the arts
A S $600 million performing arts centre will open in Singapore in October.

The Esplanade - theatres on the bay, will be home to a 2,000 seat theatre, a 1,600 seat concert hall, two performing studios, restaurants and an arts related shopping mall which will include an arts library.

Sentosa appoints new chief executive
Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC) which manages Sentosa Island, Singapore, has a new Chief Executive, Darrell Metzger.

Metzger will oversee the rejuvenation of Sentosa, which has been given a US $546 million budget by the Singapore government. Private investment will bring the total budget for development on the island to US $1.6 billion.

Indonesian zoos condemned by International Animal Charity
A report by the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) says that zoos in Indonesia are below standard.

This is despite the fact that SEAZA states one of it's aims is to 'develop and maintain high standards of animal displays and welfare.'

China's top tourist attraction to get facelift
The Forbidden City, China, is to undergo a large scale urban facelift project, to protect ancient relics, and make Beijing a modern city with an ancient flavour.

The old city area which lies in the centre of Beijing, is home to over 295 designated relic sites, and is a major tourist hot spot. The renovations will be completed in time for the Olympics which take place in Beijing in 2008.
