Patrons make a splash at New Orleans aquarium
The Aquarium of the Americas in New Orleans gave 10 patrons a shock when they were plunged into the shark tank during an after hours tour. The visitors, including four children, were standing on a feeding platform used by keepers when it collapsed and they found themselves swimming with turtles, stingrays and sharks. Museum takes Londoners back half a million years
Fitting out has begun on a new prehistoric gallery for the Museum of London called London before London. The permanent exhibition, being designed in house in association with Conran & Partners, will cover 330sq m and explore the Thames Valley over the past 500,000 years. Water safety congress aims to prevent drownings

£57m rescue plan for Stonehenge
Stonehenge, one of England's most famous landmarks, is to have a £57m cash injection to improve visitor facilities and improve access. The funding package, announced on 31 July, includes a commitment of £26m from the Heritage Lottery Fund, at least £10m from the government and £11.7m from English Heritage. Thief gets head start on British Museum
A 2,500-year-old statue was stolen from the British Museum last Tuesday (30 July). The 12inch marble head worth around £25,000, was taken from the Greek archaic gallery, which is part of a suite that does not have a full-time attendant. The bad times are over and theme parks must look to the future, says Mintel
Research company Mintel has reported that after weathering two difficult years, attractions operators are looking to 2002 for signs of recovery in visitor numbers. The UK Theme Parks Leisure Intelligence report says that many parks were hit very hard by unusually wet weather in 2000 and in 2001, not only foot and mouth disease, but the events of 11 September saw parks struggling by the end of the year.

Architect's plans for Stade Maritime Landmark unveiled
Hastings council has selected architects Ushida Findlay to design the Stade Maritime Landmark, a tourist information centre, fish restaurant, café and orientation exhibition that will form a gateway into the Stade area. Minority traineeships
The Museums Association (MA) has announced new ethnic minority traineeships in a move to address the fact that the museum profession's profile is predominantly white.
