London Eye lights up
The London Eye is to have a Christmas makeover when six Christmas trees made entirely from ice are put on display this week. Weighing nearly four tonnes each and standing four metres high, he giant trees are the work of London-based ice sculptors Duncan and Jamie Hamilton.

Launch of benchmarking tourism index

BTA promotes golfing guide
A Golf in Britain guide for overseas visitors has been launched by the British Tourist Authority (BTA) to position Britain as a preferred destination for the sport. Planners weigh up £4bn Dome project
Britain's most ambitious planning application - for the Millennium Dome in London, is being assessed by Greenwich Council. Jordan draws tourists to religious sites
The Ministry of Tourism in Jordan has unveiled a JD6m project to update facilities and draw more tourists and pilgrims to the ancient Biblical site of Wadi Kharrar, east of the Jordan River. Something in the water

Universal signs Shanghai park deal
Universal Parks and Resorts has signed an investment agreement with Chinese partners to build a theme park in Shanghai - leap-frogging rival operator Disney in the race to open a park in the city. £3m centre to house Wordsworth treasures
Work is due to start on a new centre to house artefacts from the Wordsworth Trust in the New Year. New home for Hull theatre
Hull Truck Theatre has announced plans for its new home. Part of the £150m Ferensway regeneration scheme, the project has been funded by the Arts Council of England, Kingston Upon Hull City Council and Yorkshire Forward. The £7m theatre will comprise a 450-seat auditorium, a 150-seat experimental space, rehearsal rooms, education and corporate suites, production support facilities and a café bar.

Loss of CMW will leave Welsh museums without a voice
Plans to dissolve the Council of Museums in Wales (CMW) and replace it with a body attached to the Welsh Assembly will leave museums without a voice, warns the acting director of the CMW. The new body, CyMAL (Museums, Archives and Libraries Wales), will take over the functions of CMW, such as advice, grant and support, when it launches in April 2004.
