Twice the work at Nottingham Theatres
The arts team at architect's RHWL has been appointed to renovate Northampton Theatre's Derngate centre and Royal Theatre.

Mighty MICE Group
MICE Group has scooped several new attraction projects, according to special projects manager, Gwyn Williams, including a turnkey dark ride/aquarium scheme, one element of the new Khalifa Park in Abu Dhabi. Its subsidiary, Grant Leisure is setting up the operations and management for the venture.

Hampstead Theatre opens
The first stand-alone producing theatre to be built in London for over a quarter of a century, has opened in Hampstead.

The £15.7m Hampstead Theatre is four times larger than its predecessor and has been funded by a £9.86m National Lottery grant and £4.1m in partnership funding.

Shakespeare's Globe makes a pass
As part of its marketing strategy for 2003, Shakespeare's Globe has joined the London Pass - a scheme that offers visitors free entry to major tourist destinations, including London Zoo, National Gallery and Buckingham Palace.

Bristol Zoo chiefs plan green annex
Bristol Zoo Gardens in the UK is moving ahead with plans to create a 136-acre zoological park close to the Cribbs Causeway shopping mall.

Zoo director, Jo Gibbs, has confirmed that fundraising efforts are underway for the project, which reports suggest will cost £20m. There are hopes that it will attract 400,000 visitors a year, enticing people in from the nearby mall.

Crystal clear at the Hayward Gallery
The Hayward Gallery, part of the South Bank Centre, has temporarily closed for refurbishment after receiving £1.3m from the Arts Lottery Council.
