One millionth visit to Coal Mining Museum
The National Coal Mining Museum for England has welcomed its one millionth visitor. Opened in 1988 as the Yorkshire Mining Museum and renamed in 1995, the museum received a Heritage Lottery grant of just over £4.5m in 2001. Liverpool gets its FACTs right

Moves to curb drowning abroad
Figures from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents reveal that at least 60 British nationals drown abroad each year. Heritage Centre at Brooklands Racetrack
DaimlerChrysler has submitted a planning application for a Heritage and Technology Centre at Brooklands racetrack in Weybridge, Surrey. Axess 4 All lift installed at The Discovery Museum
An Axess 4 All platform lift has been installed at The Discovery Museum in Newcastle upon Tyne to enable visitors in wheelchairs or with walking impediments easy access to the gangway built around the 100ft-long ship the Turbinia - the first vessel of its kind to be powered by a steam turbine. Tourism threat to Antarctica
