A new frontier opening in Scotland
A multi-million pound manufacturing and research centre and underwater visitor attraction will be opening in Fort William on 1 June.

Nearly the end of the road for the Routemaster
Transport for London has announced that its Routemaster bus fleet is to be removed from most of the routes it currently serves and restricted to those serving tourist attractions.

Highlands indoor climbing centre ahead of schedule
Progress on the Ice Factory development in Kinlochleven is three weeks ahead of schedule and managing director, Jamie Smith, says it is on course for a December 2003 opening.

Malmaison goes into the security business
The Malmaison hotel group has announced that its newest UK hotel will occupy a former prison, being part of the redevelopment of Oxford Castle.

The Grade II listed building is within the walls of the castle - a landmark heritage site built soon after the Norman Conquest in 1071 - and will be converted into an 87-room hotel with bar and brasserie.

Architects for the project are ADP and Sir Jeremy Dixon.

Carnival cuts prices as bookings falter
Carnival, the world's largest cruise company, has cut prices in an attempt to counteract the uncertainty of war with Iraq, reports the Financial Times.

The US group, which is buying its UK rival P&O Princess, said 2003 bookings were at last year's levels, but volumes had not risen in line with increases in passenger capacity.

Theme parks with a difference
It has been reported that a Dracula theme park is now under development in Romania.

Hotel closed after Legionnaire's outbreak
The Cricket St Thomas Hotel in Somerset and its associated leisure centre and wildlife park were closed from 14 March after the site was linked to a recent outbreak of Legionnaire's disease.

The leisure centre's spa bath and showers were closed on 27 February for extra cleaning but the total closure will permit work to be undertaken on the whole water system.
