LTB launches gay guide to London
London Tourist Board and Convention Bureau (LTB) has launched its first ever Gay & Lesbian London guide.

The guide forms part of a major campaign by LTB to target 'the pink tourist pound'.

Cemetery tour in East London
A new Heritage Brochure marking the 150-year history of the City of London Cemetery and Crematorium in Manor Park, East London includes a route around its most famous monuments.

To coincide with the cemetery's annual Easter memorial service in mid-April, a special unveiling ceremony to mark the refurbishment of the Vigiland monument, will be followed by a heritage tour of the cemetery grounds.

Wild Reef opens in the Windy City
Shedd Aquarium, on the shores of Lake Michigan, in Chicago, has opened its newest attraction - a south-east Asian coral reef.

Wild Reef, a recreation of Apo Island, a volcanic peak in the Philippines, allows visitors to get a divers-eye view of the marine eco-system of a coral reef.

New developments at Legoland for 2003
Legoland Windsor opened for the new season at the end of March and features two new attractions.

The Lego Explore Land has been given a £500,000 renovation and offers a complete discovery system based on four brightly coloured play worlds.

The Waterworks area has also got a new look, complete with a talking rhinoceros, giant flowers and interactive water features.

Spain top destination for the British holidaymaker
According to figures from government's Office for National Statistics, Spain was the most popular destination for residents of the UK in 2002.

At 12.6m visits, numbers of British people visiting Spain were up 7 per cent on 2001, compared with the 11.7m - down 2 per cent - who visited second placed France.

Third in the table was the Republic of Ireland with 4m UK visitors, followed by the US with 3.7m.

A new angle on standing stones
Work has begun at Avebury, in Wiltshire, to straighten two prehistoric stones.

The two 16-foot megaliths, known as the Cove and near the centre of a ring of standing stones erected over 4000 years ago, have developed a 15-degree list during the past 300 years and action is now needed to return them to the vertical.

Peter de Jong, CEO of the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) has said the emerging economies of China and India are phenomenal and should be the travel and tourism industries' 'bread and butter' for the next 20 years.

Multi-million pound revamp for Great Yarmouth
East coast resort, Great Yarmouth, has received a £16.3m grant to regenerate its seafront and town centre.

Brighton pier rebuild to go ahead
The restoration of Brighton's West Pier is to proceed as proposed despite the fire at the end of March.

Severe storm damage during the winter also damaged the 19th century pier, which has been closed since 1975.

In February this year approval was given by Brighton council to a £30m plan by property developers St Modwen in conjunction with the West Pier Trust, to rebuild the structure.

Station on track for a re-vamp
The Talyllyn narrow gauge railway in west Wales has received a £682,500 Heritage Lottery Fund grant towards a project to redevelop Tywyn Wharf station.

The £1.7m project involves demolishing the existing museum and several other structures and constructing a purpose-built museum as an extension of the original station building.
