UNESCO to compile list of looted Iraqi antiquities
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) has announced that it is sending a team of experts to Baghdad to put together a database of items stolen from historical Iraqi sites during the recent conflict.

Brighton beach in the world's top twenty
Brighton has come twentieth in a list of the world's top 20 beaches - a one-man survey compiled by a British backpacker.

Pete Shannon, 26, a computer programmer from Chichester, West Sussex won a seven-week trip to test the world's top 20 beaches as nominated on the Expedia travel website.

After flying 54,000miles, he decided his favourite was Waikiki in Hawaii.

IAAPA cancels AAE 2003 due to SARS
The International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) has cancelled the Asian Amusement Expo (AAE) 2003 as a result of the SARS outbreak.

The show was scheduled to take place on July 16-18 at the Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Bright news for Black Country
A £100m scheme to develop world-class visitor attractions within the Castle Hill site at Dudley in the West Midlands has been unveiled by developers, St Modwen.

Fashionable new museum for Bermondsey
London's newest museum, the Fashion and Textiles Museum (FTM) is scheduled to open on 12 May.

Harry Potter wizard for tourism
The Safeway Excellence in England Awards 2003 announced on 23 April included an award to the Harry Potter books and films for their Outstanding Contribution to English Tourism.

Free entry to theme parks
Customers of J Sainsbury, Barclaycard, Debenhams and BP can now use their Nectar Rewards Scheme vouchers to obtain free entry to seven theme parks in England.

Diamonds aren't forever in Korea
It has been reported that North Korea has suspended a tourism partnership with South Korea, citing fears of SARS.

Expenditure by business visitors has exceeded that of leisure visitors for the first time, says The Business Tourism Partnership's latest report, The Business Tourism Briefing.

Perceived terrorism risk closes model village
Southport's Model Railway Village opened a week late for the new season after its insurers refused to renew cover because of a heightened threat from terrorism.

Uplifting experience at Anderton boat lift
British Waterways' opens a new £1m operations centre at its Cheshire Anderton Boat Lift.

A glass-panelled control cabin allows viewing of technology operating the lift. Visitors can take part in an interactive exhibition and take a ride on the lift itself and on the 56-seater glass-topped Edwin Clark - equipped with a hydraulic lift and disabled toilet.

Staffordshire County Council is offering Thrill Hopper tickets in a bid to tempt visitors to visit four attractions.

P&O's pride dented
The captain of P&O cross Channel ferry, Pride of Provence, which hit a breakwater in Dover has been suspended.

The 28,559-tonne vessel, carrying nearly 650 passengers and crew, was arriving from Calais at 5.30pm on 18 April when the incident happened, leaving 28 people injured.

Damage to the vessel is being assessed in a Dunkirk shipyard and an investigation into the cause of the collision has been launched .... More>>
